This is a great fall book for preschool to 3rd grade. Nice to have a book that looks at other fall crops - something different to read w/ all the apple and pumpkin books during autumn. I searched and searched for this Bible. I already had a message Bible but it was too heavy and didn't have the chapters numbered. I just got this two days ago and so far really love it. I'm going to order more for Easter baskets and graduation gifts.

I was hesitant to get this version of The Message because it had a smaller font size than what I was looking for. That and I figured a gift bible for $11 would just end up disappointing me in quality. I'm glad I ended up buying it. In reality this bible has an amazing quality and feel to it for such an astoundingly good deal.The font size is still quite readable due to a great typeset and arrangement of the text and chapter and verse numbers. There is minimal ghosting on a nice bright white paper. I have smaller difficulties reading it than I do another bible I bought in similar size with a font size 2 points larger. It's not just the size of the font, it's the thickness and color of the page and how the lines and spacing is arranged that makes a text readable.I also appreciate that the cover, while simple, feels well made. There's nothing fancy about this bible. But it's design is almost perfect. The dimensions, weight, and text are all just right in both one hand or two. This is a highly readable translation in a highly readable bible. I look forward to putting it to good use in the days ahead. In fact, I plan to buy several more copies to give out just because this is such a good implementation for such a small price.

Like any Bible. It may not be the "Word of God" but, that said, it is the Bible and can get you started on understanding a passage. It's a nice bible that reads like a story more than the Word of God. An offering of larger print would have been a plus for these old eyes.

As someone else mentioned and I wish I'd noticed earlier, I suggest that you NOT order the e-book for this one if you have a Kindle Paperwhite like I do. I ordered it - it looks awful. It's in landscape and can't be changed to portrait, and the text is tiny tiny and can't be enlarged except by swiping the screen. When I swipe the screen to enlarge the text, I can only read ONE page because when I try to move to the next page it goes back to tiny text on the same page. Amazon is giving me a refund for the e-book and I've ordered it in paperback but it's temporarily out of stock.

Love this book, love this wisewoman. When she writes, the pictures in your mind guide you through that wonderful world of folkways that are almost forgotten.

I'd attended a class based on a chapter of the book and new I'd made the right choice. The material covered in Assiduity and Mad-Stones is invaluable, and well told. I'm so happy to have another tool in my work-basket. I hope Byron keeps bringing us new tomes!

I purchased this book at a convention after hearing the author. It and it's companion book Ditchwater and Staubs are informative and fun reading. If you ever get a chance to hear this wonderful author speak, grab it!

Wonderful companion to her Ditchwater title. A great title to add to any Appalachian folk magic library.

This is a wonderful continuation of her earlier book, Staubs and Ditchwater. If you are interested in Appalachian life, folk medicine or folk magick, you'll find this book to be an absolute treasure!I'd encourage you to buy it as a hard copy instead of as a Kindle book for a couple of reasons...first, this is a book you'll want to dogear and use as a reference! Second, and sadly, the Kindle version loads sideways (at least it has for me) and Amazon has not responded to my several requests to get assistance.

John Chaffee, Ph.D., is a professor of philosophy at The City University of New York, where he has developed a Philosophy and Critical Thinking program that annually involves 25 faculty and 3,000 students.
