This book is very "generic", touching on most of the things related to taking good pictures. However the information contained inside is more commonsensical. I was expecting something different. I kept on reading and felt like the book never started. I recently read the series from Stephen Hockman (Mastering camera aperture....and other areas). Those books gave some really good information that must be known before taking good pictures. I was hoping this book will put that all together for me. But it did not really get into it.This book is good if you want to start scratching the surface on photography. Nothing more than that...
Nicole Woods presented a great deal of very useful information in an easy to follow format. But don't get me wrong, it's not a lightweight book. It provides in depth discussions of many topics that will interest the novice DSLR user, but also provides content that will help out the experienced. It is nicely laid out so you are walked through step by step and not overwhelmed with a lot of information all at once. Instead you read perfectly sized chapters and the author provides great examples using color photos. It also encourages new photographers to venture beyond the confines of Auto Focus and play with the settings. The book is very liberating as it tells new photographers go out risk making mistakes as you learn the limits and trade offs imposed by aperture, ISO and shutter speed in various environments. Photography should be fun because you use your imagination to create the shot.
Loved this book! I have been really into taking pictures with slightly higher-end cameras lately and there are so many questions about how to use the camera and make the photo look stunning. I think this book really explains the details and answered most of my questions! I was drawn to this book because of its cover, but after reading it; I simply feel it worth my time and I'm one level up from where I was before I picked up this book. Thanks to the author, you did a great job and I definitely recommend this book to anyone who's interested in taking better photos!
Aperture, exposure, shuttle speed - all these terms were alien and gave me a headache previously. Not anymore.The author has explained these technical terms clearly in very simple language that allowed me to finally understand these terms.Love Chapter 10 where 10 tips on how to take great pictures and how to always be prepared to take good photos were shared. Chapter 13 was also an eye open for a newbie like myself.Can't wait to start playing around with my DSLR now!
It is like reading a starter photography class. It explains the basic elements of composition for taking photos. It goes over techniques used to improve the quality of the photo.There are sections on nature, landscape, portrait, flowers, plants and children. There is a section on what to consider when buying a digital camera. The techniques covered can be used for any type of photo taking device. The book does say to read your camera manual and if you are using a more advanced camera, you need to pay attention to that. The book explains why some photos didn't come out the way you though they might and how to correct for next time. I would have liked to seen side by side comparisons for visual learning. But on the whole. This would be a good starter for learning the basic techniques. I did receive this book for free for my unbiased review.
I purchased this book based on the high ratings given. In my opinion, all these ratings must be from friends and relatives trying to help. Yes, there are some good theories but it is short using correct photographic terms. Also, more attention should have been given checking and editing this book since it's hard to follow just trying to make sense what is meant; for example, when referring to the different types of tripod heads and positioning, reference is made to the tripod's ACCESS... I am sure it was meant to be AXIS. One thing I like about this book is that I know (now) that I can definitely write a digital photography book... and will - Thanks for that!
This book has really taught me a LOT about taking photos. I recently have been borrowing my friends DSLR, and wanted to learn more about using it properly, before I invested the thousands in one of my own. This book has taught me some excellent tips and tricks for gorgeous photos right from the get go. It is really written so that a beginner like me can understand. This book starts right from the beginning, teaching me about the equipment I am using, and then going into the basics of photographic composition. I may not be an expert after reading this, but I can certainly take a much better photo, and I am not doing shame to the very VERY nice camera my friend let me borrow. This was worth the three bucks for me.
This is not only an excellent guide to understanding your digital camera and getting the most out of it, but also an excellent basic guide to photography. The reader will learn some of the basic differences and benefits of having a digital camera and how to make the most out of its features. Never having had a great deal of experience with photography in general, I was pleased to get my hands on something that not only helped me to understand what all of those different setting on my digital camera do, but to help me take better picture in general.
